The FAMILY ROOTS Trial Disk contains three different main
programs. These programs are:
- EDIT: stores basic family information for each member.
This program is used to enter information for new members,
correct and append information to existing files, and
delete information upon request. RUN THIS PROGRAM FIRST TO
ENTER DATA BEFORE YOU TRY STANDARDS OR LISTS.
- STANDARDS: prints the standard pedigree chart, one of the
six basic types of charts the full FAMILY ROOTS program
will generate. Controls allow you to select what infor-
mation to include for each person.
- LISTS: prints alphabetized and numerically ordered lists
of names for as few and as many names as you wish. Options
are provided.
Notes on program use:
- Linking of persons is done using the record numbers (called
RN's on the program screens) associated with a name. In
the full FAMILY ROOTS, millions of RN's may be used. On
this disk, only RN's in the range 1 to 30 may be used.
- The programs are primarily operated by selecting an item
from a list on the screen (a menu).
- When a question is asked, you may either answer it or you
may press the 'enter' key to use a pre-assigned response.
- If in doubt about what to do, press the 'return' key.
- If you want to cancel or stop an operation, use CTRL-Z. You
do that by holding down the key marked Ctrl while pressing
Z. The response will not be immediate, but will occur at the
next logical break point.
